Julie Werner, MSW

Social Work Intern

 

Julie began working in the mental health field in 2006 when she joined the Rape Recovery Center in Salt Lake City. She received a B.S. in Sociology and B.A. in English from Westminster College in 2010 and is currently completing her Master in Social Work at the University of Utah. She will graduate in April 2016 with her MSW and an interdisciplinary certificate in Women's Health. In addition to her nine years at the Rape Recovery Center, where she most recently served as the Hospital Response Team Coordinator, Julie has also worked as a law enforcement victim advocate for Unified Police Department. Julie completed her first-year social work practicum doing individual and group therapy in a long-term residential treatment center for teen girls in state custody. Julie is experienced in working with adults and teens struggling with anxiety and depression, self-harm, and survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence. She practices from a strengths-based perspective with aspects of dialectical and cognitive behavioral therapy. Julie is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, is certified as a sexual assault advocate by the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and is a member of the Utah chapter of the Association for Women in Psychology. She has also served on the Utah Healthy Relationships Taskforce through the Utah Department of Health, where she collaborated to create a state-wide healthy relationships and anti-bullying curriculum.
